Social and Stakeholder Engagement
With awareness of customary and legal rights of local communities on the rise and availability of land and other resources in decline, effective social and stakeholder engagement is becoming a core operational requirement for responsible business. Companies and governments keen to improve social features of the investment through the pursuit of certification and other means, often lack the technical skills and strategic vision to do this effectively, especially in the diverse, complex social environments of Indonesia and Asia.
Daemeter is uniquely positioned to assist clients on social and stakeholder engagement as an independent organization drawing upon more than 20 years of staff experiences to carry out engagement activities on the ground. Daemeter’s expertise and services include systematic stakeholder mapping, creating and co-leading communication programs to facilitate effective consultations, and developing conflict identification and resolution mechanisms. We also conduct trainings and workshops to raise capacity and understanding for both internal and external stakeholders – key to ensuring meaningful and effective engagements over the long term.
We assist clients to engage with stakeholders in a manner designed to respect social traditions and promote cohesion through:
- Stakeholder analysis and engagement strategy
- Public consultation
- Workshop facilitation and training
- Conflict avoidance and resolution
- Strategic communications
- Participatory mapping
Daemeter has worked with companies in diverse industries, including agriculture, forestry and mining, to communicate effectively with a wide range of audiences at local, national and international scales. Project activities include stakeholder mapping, engagement strategy development, implementation support and perception monitoring.
Daemeter also supports multi-stakeholder processes lead by the Indonesian government and bilateral donors to develop, communicate and revise safeguards and information management systems related to REDD+ and the green growth policy. This includes facilitated workshops, focal group discussions and the preparation and delivery of communication materials.
