Daemeter assisted the development of a publication that highlights the process and lessons learned in building SIS-REDD+ safeguards information system in Indonesia.

Indonesia’s Ministry of Forestry through the Centre for Standardization and Environment (Pustanling) in 2011 initiated a process to translate global guidelines to develop safeguards information system for REDD+ into national contexts. Within three-and-a-half years, SIS-REDD+, short for System for Providing Information on REDD+ Safeguards Implementation, has been established and trials commenced. A multi-stakeholder process has ensured that its Principles, Criteria, Indicators, assessment tools, and institutional structure utilize safeguards in existing instruments and build upon prevailing systems.

This process was well documented in various publications, presentations, and internal reports issued between 2011 and 2014. Daemeter assisted Pustanling and FORCLIME, a program implemented by the Ministry of Forestry and GIZ, to consolidate this wealth of information and provide a structured summary of this journey. This book will be made available to the public in English and Bahasa Indonesia to inform key stakeholders of REDD+ and forestry and inspire other parties in REDD+ countries to develop similar frameworks.
