INACRAFT 2025: The Launch of Sustainable Palm Oil-based Batik Wax, A Collaboration in Cultural Heritage and Sustainable Practices

Jakarta, 05 February 2025 – The collaboration between Forum Pengembangan Kampoeng Batik Laweyan (FPKBL), WWF-Indonesia, RSPO, Apical, CECT Universitas Trisakti, Daemeter, and Control Union launched the sustainable palm oil-based batik at INACRAFT 2025. Asri Welas, founder of Denyut Semesta, which uses recycled textiles and natural dyes for the brand’s materials, also participated in the launch event.
WWF-Indonesia encourages sustainability practices with FPKBL through Sustainability Action Plan training, RSPO certification, and assistance in the Supply Chain Certification Standard (SCCS) audit process. By blending cultural heritage with sustainable practices, this batik aims to lead the industry.
On 25 September 2004, Kampung Batik Laweyan was established. This marked a significant step in preserving the cultural heritage of Batik Laweyan. The community built a communal waste management facility in 2007. This facility is an initiative to prevent pollution of the local river. Kampung Batik Laweyan began its journey with the idea of eco-friendly batik. Therefore, they welcomed the offer of sustainable palm oil wax. The raw materials use Hydrogenated Palm Stearin (HPS), a palm oil derivative produced by Apical.
Adapting sustainable palm oil wax for batik demonstrates a commitment to environmental responsibility. Daemeter as an impact-driven organization supports the initiative to promote certified sustainable sources and ensure transparency throughout the supply chain. This initiative can contribute to a more sustainable palm oil industry while enhancing the environmental impact.
